An insight to the corrupt world of 1960's Chicago that isn't made up in the mind of a film producer, but the real life horror the McCluskie family had to endure. Excellent reading.
WOW, what a gripping story of love and survival. The author gives the reader a real insight as to how the mafia could suck innocent bystanders into their underworld. I would recommend this as a must read.
Once I started reading this book, I couldn't put it down. Her story is amazing and the fact that it's all true is even more amazing. She provides a good look into organized crime in Chicago from the perspective of a normal, working class family.
This book is stunning. Few people live through the hell that the mafia can bring and live to tell about it. After reading it , I am scared to even sign my name.
Great writing that shares a family's life experience in Chicago and how they moved forward and through the 1960's. The author has captured my heart and spirit with her words. I grew up in Chicago during this era and feel this is a "must read" for anyone that has experienced Chicago during this time period or an interest in Chicago history!
This book is an extraordinary story about an ordinary family caught up in Chicago crime in the 1960's. The couple's courage and ability to persevere is amazing. The author creates a picture in your mind that makes you feel like you are there with her. Every bit of it is true which makes it even more remarkable. I could not put this book down and I highly recommend it.
This book is an excellent book and easy read. Once you start reading it you can't put it down, you can feel the Authors feelings while she tells the story. This is a very moving true story of survival, love and family. The story takes place in the 60's and tells a tale of how a young ,naive hard working couple, who came to Chicago and tried to make a living and raise a family. This family lived in terror for many years as they had the bad luck of innocently becoming entangle with the mafia and became pawns of the corrupt political justice system.
This is a story of a family that experienced many tragedies and yet through it all came out of it and were still able to go on with their lives. I know this story as I was there and lived it. Although it was hard for me to read without emotion ,I find it is amazing on how we survived it. The survival came from the strength and love of our family. This is what that got us through it. I highly recommend this book and commend the Author for having the courage to write it . A must read!!
